New railway infrastructure between Tangiers and Kenitra that will enable high speed railway traffic services. |
| State of Play of the Project |
Works of the high speed train connection on the Tangiers-Casablanca section (infrastructure construction) stared on September 29, 2011. Engineering studies have been fully completed. Operation of the line is scheduled for December 2015. |
| Cost |
The total cost of the Project (infrastructures and rolling equipment) amounts to 1.8 Billion Euros. The project funding is entirely targeted. |
| Technical Assistance |
Morocco’s National Coordinator is discussing with ONCF the project’s specific needs. BEI’s decision not to fund this project has had negative impacts on the possibilities to define the project’s technical assistance component. CETMO stands ready to work with Morocco on defining the scope of the technical assistance |
| Legal Framework |
The Moroccan Ministry of Public Works and Transport oversees the development of construction, modernization and extension of the railway network, the main operator being ONCF. Law No 52-03 related to the organization, management and operation of the national railway network was promulgated in the beginning of 2005 (Dahir 1‐04‐256 dated January 7, 2005). |

New railway infrastructure between Settat and Marrakech which will enable high speed traffic of railway services. |
| State of Play of the Project |
The feasibility, environmental, and social studies have been finalized. The Master Plan for the development of railways to be used by high-speed trains in Morocco provides for an operation scenario in 2030. |
| Cost |
The total cost of the project (infrastructures and rolling equipment) amounts to 1,25 Billion Euros. The project’s financial set-up is being finalized. |

Morocco’s National Coordinator is conducting discussions with ONCF about the project’s specific needs. BEI’s decision not to fund this project has had negative impacts on the possibilities to define the project’s technical assistance component.
